Sound chemical management

While risk assessment is an essential element of sound chemical management, programmatic success also requires effective, efficient, and pragmatic frameworks for implementation, clear thresholds, and broad consideration of environmental, social, and economic impacts

The World Health Organization identifies climate change as a fundamental threat to human health that the organization expects to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year between 2030 and 2050.*   Sound chemical management, therefore, must consider risks broadly to minimize total risk to people and planet, including toxicological risk posed by exposure to hazardous chemicals.**

With practical experiences in chemical management regulatory schemes across the globe, in addition to sustainable chemistry and risk assessment, SS&I is well positioned to help with the efficient development and implementation of programs.

Examples of previous work

In 2023, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Green Chemistry and Sound Chemicals Management Workshop held during the First Senior Officials’ meeting in Palm Springs, California, Andy Liu had the privilege to contribute to the conversation.

Over the course of 2013-2015, Andy led a collaborative project with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of an East Asian government to systematically study chemical management regulations in six leading jurisdictions to identify effective practices that contribute to their programmatic success.
